6th Caulescens Bus Tour, September 10-13.

Pre- and post-tour:  the tour will start and end at the Menlo Park Town Lodge in Pretoria east, off Atterbury road, just west of the N1 freeway.

M 10th: leave at 07h00 from the hotel, visit The Pinnacle and Gods Window, overnight Graskop.

T 11th:  visit Mariepskop, overnight Kiepersol/Hoedspruit.

W 12th: day tour of the Kruger National Park, overnight White River/Nelspruit.

T 13th: visit local Clivia collection and the National Botanic Gardens, return to Pretoria late afternoon.

Clivias are found in the scenic higher rainfall areas of South Africa, as shown in our photo of the eastern escarpment, taken from the top of Mariepskop mountain.

It is only in the habitats that one can obtain some appreciation of the relationship of clivias and the numerous other elements, large and small, of their environments.

Ian Coates’s photos from Mariepskop illustrate these wonders, of epiphytic caulescens with companion vegetation and of a sunbird (a pollinator of clivias) perched on a caulescens umbel.

As was experienced during the five previous caulescens bus tours that we have organized, we look forward to the camaraderie of four days of immersion in clivia enthusiasm, with old and new friends from around the world. This is nicely shown in Ian Coates’s photo taken at The Pinnacle during the 2006 tour.

Join us.  If you may be able to join us, please send an email, without commitment, and you will receive a separate circular with details.  It will be updated from time to time as various aspects are firmed up, with changes highlighted.
